WHAT IS SUBLIMATION PRINTING?
Sublimation printing is a thermo-dye process that does not impede the performance characteristics of the technical polyester fabrics. Digital Sublimation is the ultimate custom apparel design tool. Digital Sublimation is a new technology but in the short time it has been available, it has created a revolution in sports and teamwear apparel. Digital sublimation allows the designer to produce any colour and design imaginable. This printing technology also combines with the latest in technical fabric development to produce the ultimate in lightweight cool to wear garments. Digital has none of the traditional set up costs so small runs are now cost effective.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SCREEN PRINTING AND SUBLIMATION?
Screen printing is a process whereby ink is transferred through a screen onto the surface of a garment. The process is used on most standard t-shirts and works very well with simple logos, text and uncomplicated artwork that is limited to certain areas on the garment. It is a very cost and time efficient printing option for most garments and accessories that do not require complete breathability. Traditional screen printing covers the fabric with ink, thereby reducing the breathability of the fabric. The sublimation process dyes white fabric with colour through heat and pressure, which maintains the fabric's wicking characteristics (the ability to breath and pull moisture through to the surface). Because sublimation dyes each thread of fabric, there is no peeling or flaking, and the material surface is left soft and smooth. The image quality tends to be sharper and more vibrant and allows for very complex ‘wrap-around' style graphics.
WHAT ARE VECTOR GRAPHICS?
Vector graphics are computer generated drawings created by using a series of points (or nodes) and segments resulting in a wire frame of editable paths. Digital drawings of this kind are of the highest quality because they are versatile, easy to manipulate and resolution independent. This means that the quality of the final printed image is described by larger and fewer dots which will distort the original form.
WHAT ARE RESTER GRAPHICS?
Raster graphics are composed of a rectangular grid of dots which maps out a picture. This grid is resolution dependant the quality of the image is determined by its resolution. The higher the dpi (dots per inch) the better the quality of the final image. ‘High resolution' means that the fine dot pattern describing your image will hardly be visible leaving crisp lines, smooth edges and excellent details. ‘Low Resolution' means that the image is described by larger and fewer dots which will distort the original form.
WHAT IS PANTONE® FORMULA GUIDE?
